Baath Party Personnel File
This Baath party file was taken from the Iraqi government and military
facility at Salman Pak Iraq on April 6th, 2003 during the US push
to Baghdad. The mission was a joint operation between 3/7 Marines
and various special forces units and personnel. Referred to as a
Sensitive Site Exploration, or SSE, the mission called for Marines
from India Company to seize and secure predetermined buildings so
special operations troops could enter and confiscate all files and
other documents deemed critical to the intelligence effort. There
was little to no resistance and U.S. forces were able to carry out
the operation without incident.
The file itself is a glimpse into the mundane reality of being
a low level Baathist under Saddam Hussein. The individual is not
important by himself, but likely represents hundreds of thousands
of individuals just like him that were party members in large part
due to necessity of living under Saddam. The person in question
doesn’t appear to have reached the lower levels of the party
including Shubah (Sector), Firqah (Division) or even Khaliyah (cell).
