ZHILIN (b. 1928) Beijing, China "Study for Historical Painting of 'Naniwan' #2" 1961 oil on paper on wood, 11 3/4” x 15 5/8” During Jin’s stay in Shaanxi he began work on Nanniwan, a painting commissioned by the Military History Museum in Beijing. Jin painted a number of study pieces before completing his masterpiece in late 1964. This particular study is of an 8th Route Army soldier. Jin sought to emphasize the military’s interaction with the peasants as the major theme of Nanniwan. |
