This pencil sketch for the eventual gouache Nanniwan May 7th Cadre School was found among Jin’s papers and notes from his Yan’an years (1973-1986). Although both Jin and Song are both listed as the artists, Jin took the lead for the gouache series, coming up with the concept and many of the original studies. Both artists recall that the idea behind the gouache series was to have it serve as a group project for the artists of the Masses Art Studio.
