The local peasant militia receives training under the guidance
of the People’s Liberation Army. At this time, China still
adhered to Mao’s philosophy of “people’s war”
and all local communes organized a militia under the leadership
of the regular army. Local peasants are distinguished by the typical
Shaanxi white headscarf, while the instructors wear green military
uniforms.
