RUXIN (b.1946) Yan'an, China "Fan (B/W)" 1976 woodcut, 26 1/4" x 14 1/8" This version depicts a bookstore patron, a “fan” of books, browsing in a bookstore. Note the differences with the other version. The sign on the door indicates “Xinhua,” the official name of the government-run bookstores throughout China. The clerk at the desk is not reading a book, but watching the clock, seemingly uninterested in books and learning. |
