A young teacher follows the Communist Party maxim to “Serve
the People” by making a fire to warm the classroom on a cold
winter morning before her students arrive. The alphabet on the blackboard
is not for an English class, but rather to teach the phonetic “pinin”
system used to teach young Chinese to read Chinese characters. The
latticework used in the window is typical of the cave homes of northern
Shaanxi Province. |
