Passing the Thread illustrates the soldiers’ care for one another.
The older soldier helps a younger soldier by mending his coat, or
passing the thread, symbolizing the passage of the good traditions
of the Red Army from one generation to the next. The print recalls
the revolutionary period, 1936 to 1945, when the Red Army was based
in Yan’an.
