infantryman to the far right is carrying an AK-74 (chambered to
fire a 5.54 mm round, as opposed to the AK-47's 7.62 short). Underneath
the barrel of the AK-74 is a GP-25 40mm grenade launcher. In
spite of similar appearances, this weapon is NOT the AK-47 that
has been so widely proliferated in the third world. The AK-74
series of weapons fire a bullet more similar to the 5.56mm round
used in the U.S. M-16, M-4, and M249 SAW. |
