Soldier Pilots: UAVs in the Army's New Modular Combat Brigade

When the 3rd Brigade of the 101st Air Assault Division deployed to Iraq in late October 2005, it contained more unmanned-aerial-vehicle (UAV) assets than any combat brigade in US Army history. Among the many warfighting tools at his disposal, brigade commander Colonel Michael Steele has both the Shadow and Raven UAV platforms to give him a bird's-eye view of the battlefield with near-real-time imagery. Stryker Brigade Combats Guerillas in Mosul

The USA's 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team (3SBCT) have reduced the number of guerrilla attacks in Mosul since taking responsibility for security in the city in February.

The northern Iraq city has not been given the attention that the Sunni Triangle has recently received, but it has been a benchmark for US casualties in the country. Marines Make Swift Landing in West Africa

The US Marine Corps (USMC) Small Craft Company and two infantry squads from 3/25 Marine Reserves conducted littoral exercises off the West African coast in November 2003.

It was 4:30 am, March 2, D-Day of Operation Anaconda, when the pilots of the 159th Aviation Brigade and the 7th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) started their pre-flight checks and began to turn the rotors of their CH-47 Chinook troop-transport helicopters. Behind them, infantry from the 101st Airborne and the 10th Mountain Divisions waited for the word to load.
