HELEN FOSTER SNOW: WORKS BY HELEN

Helen Foster Snow (aka Nym Wales) was a prolific writer producing many works on her experiences in China, most notably “Inside Red China” based on her research undertaken in Yan’an in 1937. Helen was also instrumental in her husband Edgar Snow's works including his ground breaking “Red Star Over China.” She helped edit the book and provided the material for the chapter on Zhu De, Mao’s close associate and commander of the Red Army. Most of the images used in the book were shot by Helen during her stay in Yan'an. Today, her papers and photographs are archived in Brigham Young University's Special Collections, while much of her work on the Chinese cooperative movement (Gonghe) that she played a central role in organizing is located in the archives of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

Helen's works include the following:

Inside Red China (1939)

Song of Ariran: A Korean Communist in the Chinese Revolution (1941)

The Chinese Labor Movement (1945)

Red Dust: Autobiographies of Chinese Communists (1952)

Women in Modern China (1967)

China Builds for Democracy (1972)

Helen Foster Snow: My China Years (1984)
